Wtf Should I Do Tonight?
I can’t decide what to do tonight. There are way too many options, too many directions in which I can take my night, take my life. What type of person / brand do I want to be? I think the choices we make on a micro level end up being huge indicators about how our lives will play out on a macro level. Every choice we make is important. We have “no time to waste” in becoming the person / brand we want to be. Case in point, it is Thursday night. Do I want to hit up the local bar scene with my bros, throw back some cold ones and mack on some ladies? Could be a fun experience. I will “feel more alive” than I will at home. I might meet some new friends who will open my life up to new perspectives and opinions. I may even meet some hottie who turns out to be “the one.”
Then again, I have a lot of work to do. Some freelance projects are building up, some writing assignments I should finish. My room is a mess. And I’m already tired. Plus I work tomorrow morning. Maybe I should just “be responsible” and take it easy tonight. Save the excitement for the weekend. What do you guys think? Do I want a personal brand that “gets crazy” and hits the sauce a lot, having an altogether chill / awesome time, or should I stick to business and try hard to grow professionally and make myself more mature, securing for myself a better future? Is it better to plan ahead or live for the moment?
Sometime we get so stuck in the same routine it’s easy to forget the endless possibilities that life has to offer. You / your brand can be whatever you want to be. But it is is important to be true to yourself and remain authentic. The question is, “Who am I?” “What does my brand represent?” “For what values am I a living metaphor?”
FML. Too many choices. Am I….
THE PARTY GUY.

Pros: crazy times, skanky chicks. Cons: probably can’t hold down a job, STDs.
THE POT HEAD

Pros: laid back life, snacks taste better. Cons: total loser, hate hacky sack / phish.
THE BORN-AGAIN CHRISTIAN.

Pros: believe in something “bigger than myself,” sense of universal bro-hood. Cons: no one would take me seriously, less sex.
JUST A NICE GUY.

Pros: wouldn’t “rock the boat,” people would like me. Cons: people wouldn’t actually like me but would just pretend to, hate being naive.
THE BADASS.

Pros: do whatever I want, sweet jackets. Cons: bad relationship with father, ultimately unhappy.
A “NATURAL BRO”

Pros: healthy eater, “life is chill, man.” Cons: hippies are lame, body odor.
AN AUTHENTIC ARTIST.

Pros: chicks dig the “dark and mysterious” type, could have a chill life outside society’s norms. Cons: no money, “art is dead.”
A CONSERVATIVE ASSHOLE.

Pros: “hella cash,” dead terrorists. Cons: lack of empathy, Rush Limbaugh.
A LIBERAL ASSHOLE.

Pros: healthcare and other free shit, equality. Cons: total wuss, evil communist.
AN “ADVENTURE BRO.”

Pros: travel the world, lots of adrenaline. Cons: too “in your face,” can’t find pleasure in “the simple things.”
“THAT GUY.”

Pros: N/A, Cons: you’re “that guy.”
It’s a hard choice to make. I have a lot friends who are very different from each other. It’s easy to “not know where you fit in.” Ultimately I think you just have to go with what comes natural. You may have friends / clients / co-workers who want you to be something you’re not. Your job / current lifestyle may be trying to make you sacrifice your authenticity. Compromise is often required, but ultimately to be a successful and happy person / brand, you have to just be yourself and make no apologies. That is the straight and narrow, the only way to be “totally legit.”
TONIGHT THIS WILL NOT BE ME.

Tonight I will not need my bros to hold back my hair while I “blow chunks.” I will not piss Bud Light into my douchebag Diesels. There will be not shots, no karaoke, no morning hangover. I will stay at home, listen to Panda Bear on vinyl, and be productive. Tonight, this is my brand. It may not be “fucking sweet,” but it is authentic. And at the end of the day, it really does not matter who you are or what you do. It is only important that you / your brand do what you truly believe and base your decisions on your values.
What are you doing tonight / why?
Are your small decisions helping drive your big goals?
Do you have your own vision or do you let your surrounding dictate your actions?
What makes you authentic?
